It's electrifying. The sounds from a stadium filled to capacity with fans "chanting he's in the house, he's in the house". When Alvin Iverson was playing for the Philadelphia 76ers the chant would be "AI is in the house". The roar from the crowd would put goose bumps on your arms, the hair on the back of your neck would stand up, chills running down your spine. Breathlessly, the fans would wait for AI to appear on the basketball court. And then as if the theme from Rocky was playing AI would appear and the crowd would go crazy.
Here was their hero, their idol. He would show his magic on the court. He was unstoppable, not only talented as a player but equally skilled with showmanship. He would score the points, he would take them to victory. And,when they won, singing his praises they would leave the stadium riding on a cloud of victory. Anxiously awaiting the next game, the next 'high' he would provide.
In this day and age idols are us. We have something or someone we worship, you name it and we make it our focus. Money, promotions, houses, cars, movie stars, athletes, to name a few. We want it, we need it we pursue it. 'It' fills a void in us or so we think. But once achieved we find it is never enough and so the beat goes on and we continually seek that something else or someone else to idolize.
There is an old saying, "How much is enough, just a little bit more". Once achieved we realize our idol's have feet of clay, the high we get from finally attaining this idol is only temporary. So our victory is short lived, and we look for another to live in our house.
Having lived this life for many years I speak from experience. I was always living on the edge of expectation. The expectation that whatever my next purchase my next achievement was it would be the answer to the hole in my soul. It would make me happy, make me look good, make me successful, you name it I thought it, I bought it I believed it..
And then one day Christ came to live in my house. And my world changed. No longer seeking the pleasures of idol's with feet of clay I found my peace, my joy in my life through Him. And I found myself through him. I no longer need the adornments that money can buy, I no longer chase after earthly treasures. I own the greatest gift of all through Him, a love that can only be given from Him ,to those who are willing to go to Him and receive Him..
So am I a cheerleader for Christ, YOU BET. Do I chant God is in my house, YOU BET.
Does it give me goosebumps, does the hair stand up on the back of my neck YOU BET, do chills run down my spine YOU BET..And the best part is I know He will never leave me, for he tells me so "Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.." (Hebrews13:5,NIV)
So Who's in your House? Who are chanting for? I pray that God is in your house today, and if He is not, please know He is just on the other side of the door. Won't you open the door and welcome Him in. Your life will be changed forever. This I know.
